I have been spending a lot of time lately learning different form of card manipulations in advance of the Dr. Sketchies "Casino Royale" show I'll be doing with Queen April, The possibilties and the number of card tricks out there are absolutely mind boggling. Harry Houdini was known to spend 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, for months at a time doing nothing but card manipulations in front of a mirror. I've learned that to be as good as the guy on the video, this is probably what it would take. Obviously, I will not now nor ever be, this good. Wow. World Class Master Magician-Shawn Farquhar.

Directions to the Pirate Cove from Westville Pub. From the Parking lot of the pub take a right and go down haywood. Cross the four lane Patton Ave and you will drive past a BP on your right and Haywood now becomes Johnson. Stay on this road for about five minutes until you come to your second stop sign. Now there is a little Grocery dead ahead and another one on your left. Take a hard left here. Don't look at the roadsign as this is confusing so I am not even gonna tell you the name of the road. Just remember Hard left at the second stop sign. Go for one mile. You will come to a place that looks like the road has ended and there will be a large yellow sign with a black arrow pointing to the right, lots of mailboxes will be on your right. Take a right onto the improved road (a road without lines) and go up the hill for about three hundred yards. The road will veer left and you should follow it and park here. The house is now on your right. Do not block the road with the chain going across it and please park on the right side of the road. Walk around to the garage and you will see steps leading up to the house and we will probably be around back. The house has three cyprus trees in front and a big dead oak covered in Kudzu by the stairs. You are welcome to take home all the kudzu you want. Call if you get lost 828-335-3567.

Ola to the beloved friends of Heide!
I'll be hosting the coming back/going away party for our girl here at the Pirate Cove. I know having her friends all in one place would mean a lot to our beautiful friend so everyone please come. There is hiking, decks, fire spinning, hot tubing, a fire pit and funness. Bring some food if you like to eat, the poison of yer choice, fire toys (if you are into that kind of thing) instruments, swimsuits (if you're into those things-not a requirement for hot tub entry) towels, pillows and blankets (plenty of crash space) love and adoration of the Heidi and whatever else you are in to. The date is the Friday she gets back, (September the 18th) and we will get things kicking around 8 pm. We have a grill if you want to grill out. If you are into decorating or have ideas just let me know.

Live with a fire performance artist, burlesque star, a DJ and a dancer/jugglers. Mostly quiet old farmhouse built in 1920 with 2900 square feet. Artistic, laid back and open minded environment. No parties, we got banned from that, but a few get togethers, otherwise fairly quiet. We have a large living room with fireplace, a music room/art space, porches, decks, 15 miles of trails behind the house and oh yeah, a working hot tub. Counting you, there would be four of us here but plenty of space to move around. We have washer and dryer, large kitchen, bit of garden space if you like, high speed wireless internet, We are all very laid back, neat, but not freaks about it. The house is not in pristine condition but getting there, Views, (at least in the winter) The room I have available is the smallest, but you have your own air conditioning unit and beautiful old wood walls and ceilings. Out your window, you see only green, We are secluded (you can sunbathe nude in the yard if you like) yet only 7 minutes from the westville pub. Smokers preferred as we allow smoking only upstairs and only if you are working on something and don't wish to stop, No dogs, we already have two well behaved ones. Cats can be considered but they must play well with others and be reguarly treated for fleas. YOu are expected to help keep the common areas free of debis and we have a easy chore chart that is switched every month. Nothing big, just helping out to keep the place looking neat. 1/4 of utilities runs around 75 a month and we usually fill up the heating oil tank a couple times in the winter split four ways. You have the option of moving to one of the bigger rooms if somone decides to move out.. Again, you must be open minded.. Other interest in the house include visual art, performance, magic (as in magician) guitars and drums though the drums are not banged on enough to bother the average person. If you voted for George Bush the last election, this may not be the place for you, but I won't turn you down based on political affliction LOL. You might be asked a lot of questions,,,like WHY? But that is not enough to keep you from living here. Most of us here have demanding and busy lives and won't be home a great deal and when we are home, like it to be drama and stress free. Room is available August 1.

If we like what we hear we will call you back to come look at it and sit down and chat a minute then let you know while you let us know. Cool? Last month I attended my annual training session that's required
for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training
session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman
Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say. The Imam
gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a video.
�
After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers.
�
When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked: 'Please,
correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of
Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the
world and, that by killing an infidel, (which is a command to all Muslims)
they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me
the definition of an infidel?'

There was no disagreement with my statements and, without hesitation, he
replied, 'Non-believers!'
�
I responded, 'So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of
Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they
can have a place in heaven. Is that correct?'

The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that
of a little boy who had just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.'

He sheepishly replied, 'Yes.'

I then stated, 'Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John
Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr. Stanley
ordering all Protestants to do the same in order to guarantee them a place
in heaven!'

brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me!

Hi all, just wanted to give a quick response to this email before it is sent around the world. While I disagree with many of the doctrines of Islam I found that the idea that Muslims had been commanded to kill all non-believers to insure their place in heaven, hard to believe especially since many Muslims and non Muslims live in peace throughout the world. As in Christianity, there are a radical few who commit atrocious act in the name of Islam, but most Muslims denounce Men like Bin Laden the same way most Christians denounce the actions of men like Eric Rudolf.

It appears that this email is false. I have not been able to find anywhere in the Koran, (also spelled Qur'an)which is the equivalent of the Muslim bible, that all Muslims have been commanded to kill non believers or infidels. If someone is able to find this I would like to know. I would imagine that it is not true or the writer would have listed chapter and verse.

Our own Bible commands us to stone children who misbehave, Eye for an Eye etc. and does say that non-believers will suffer in hell for an eternity. I realize these commandments come from the Old Testament but you can see how they may be misinterpreted if taken out of context. If one looks at history, the Christians have killed, by far, more people they labeled as non-believers or heretics than Muslims ever have. One merely has to look at a history of the crusades or the spanish inquisition to know this to be true.

Most of the muslims that wrote a rebuttal to this article seemed appalled that anyone belived this...Here is an excerpt from one of the articles I found.

"I would particularly like to make it clear that the Qur’an does not instruct Muslims to kill non-believers to guarantee them a place in Heaven, as you have said. On the contrary, God commands the believers to invite others to His way in the most peaceful manner. In this call, the Muslims are commanded to appeal to their common sense and to their own faith in truth and justice. Most certainly God has categorically prohibited forcing anyone to accept Islam, let alone killing! The Qur’an says what means:

*{Let there be no compulsion in religion. Truth stands out clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And God heareth and knoweth all things}* (Al-Baqarah 2:256).

*{Say: “The Truth is from your Lord.” Let him who will believe, and let him who will, reject [it]}* (Al-Kahf 18:29).

*{Goodness and evil can never be equal. Repel [evil] with good: then will he between whom and you was hatred become as it were your friend and intimate}* (Fussilat 41:34).

*{Invite [all] to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His path, and who receive guidance}* (An-Nahl 16:125).

From these verses it is clear that anyone who uses force to convert a non-Muslim or harm any human being on that score, breaks the divine command; and such a person is not what a Muslim should be.

jihad

War on Terror

Jihad simply means “striving,” and any effort can be called a jihad. But in Islamic parlance, it stands for the Muslims’ effort to obey the commands of God in their life, even when the odds are against them. In certain contexts, as mentioned above, where fighting for truth and justice becomes unavoidable, that effort can also be called jihad. But today the word is terribly misinterpreted and misunderstood to mean “holy war.” The concept of a holy war comes from the Christian history of the Crusades. Islam never considers war as holy. Fighting is allowed in Islam only as a last resort, as a necessary evil, not as something holy. The Qur’an says what means:

*{To those against whom war is made, permission is given [to fight], because they are wronged;- and verily, Allah is most powerful for their aid…}* (Al-Hajj 22:39)."

Okay, back to Daniel again,

I don't see that it does us any good to fear one another especially since all claim to worship the God of Abraham, but I think it would better suit us to understand one another. There are many concise and well-written articles about Islam to help us get a better understanding of the beliefs and value systems of our Islamic neighbors. As for the quick jabs at the end of the article. The american civil liberties union has done much in this country to help ensure that the 1st Ammendment is being upheld. They have fought for both the left and right to be able to have their say. Again lets do some research http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_Liberties_Union I think that you will find that the ACLU has been critical of both parties and I am grateful that this organization has been there to argue the case for civil liberty for those who have not the education or finacial means to do so for themselves. For example, if you found that your rights had been violated under our new administration, the ACLU would argue that case to the supreme court for you and have the finacial means and the knowhow to do so. That might make some of you feel better under Obama's reign.

Now at the end of the article is a blurb that I think is the real reason this is being circulated. The writer insinuates that Obama is a Muslim and therefore, if one were to believe the first part of the article, is out to kill all Christians. Barrack Obama has never claimed to be a Muslim, has never been involved in any Muslim congregation, nor has he made any claims to adhere to the doctrines of Islam. Not just since he has been running for President. Never. Not in his life, not now or at any point. Why put this blurb at the end of the article? I think I might know. Fear. It seems to be the weapon the right has taken up lately. By insuating that our President is out to kill every non-muslim they have been able to strike fear into the hearts of those who haven't taken the time to do the research. Fear is very powerful tool. It is fear that will cause others to follow blindly and to accept attrocities to keep themselves protected as we saw under the last Administration that put us in a war with a country that had no weapons of mass distruction (what a great name though huh?) and that had never threatened us. We do have to fear fear itself as one of our Presidents stated many years ago. I think the better road in this case is that of knowledge, of understanding and choosing to love our neighbor as ourselves and If we all took this path. who knows what might happen in this world.

There was no disagreement with my statements and, without hesitation, he
replied, 'Non-believers!'

I responded, 'So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of
Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they
can have a place in heaven. Is that correct?'

The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that
of a little boy who had just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.'
�
He sheepishly replied, 'Yes.'
�
I then stated, 'Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John
Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr. Stanley
ordering all Protestants to do the same in order to guarantee them a place
in heaven!'

The Imam was speechless!

I continued, 'I also have a problem with being your friend when you and your

brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me!

Let me ask you a question: Would you rather have your Allah, who tells you

to kill me in order for you to go to heaven, or my Jesus who tells me to

to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the Diversification training
seminar were not happy with my way of dealing with the Islamic Imam, and

I started this blog about four years ago as a way all of my artist friends and I could let everyone know when they had a gig or could share some of their creativity with the friends. Since that time, my space and tribe.net have made all of that much easier and I have been using the blog lately as more of a personal bully pulpit or as a way to share interesting things with you. It has come to my attention that in Asheville, certain employers are using blogs as an excuse to fire people and in my opinion, trampling upon freedom of speech rights. There is some other weirdness going on in my life as well that has made me decide that while I want to continue to publish to the Blog, I think it would be in my best interest to not do so publicly. Therefore...this blog is going private. If you are a reader and would like to be added to the list of the chosen ones who can continue to read the blog, send me an email at crabtreeto@gmail.com and things will continue as before.

Well, it seems the McCain campaign made yet another huge mistake. This time they scheduled Sarah Palin to speak at the Asheville Civic Center at about the same time as the annual Asheville Zombie Walk. From what I understand, the Zombies have changed the usual course and will now be converging toward the Center. Can you imagine a thousand Zombies and FBI agents..."Send More Cops".. From what I understand though Sarah has nothing to worry about. Zombie only want more braiinnnns. She will probably refer to them as "her base". Which makes sense, come to think of it.

Melmac at the Trinumeral Fest back in August. Melanie has been a member of Unifire the longest. She was an original member back when the troupe was women only and called Transform Venus. An incredible dancer and performer, she started her own business called Asheville Hoops.

I spent the weekend with this beautiful girl. I taught her fire eating and she and I worked on an Hypnotism act for the show on the 15th. I first saw her perform at AbsFest last July and was amazed at her dance prowess and skills. You know I am not much of a dancer, but if you don't believe me, Zoe from the Bellydance Superstars has been quoted as saying "Delacey ranks in my list of top ten dancers" I am absolutely delighted to be invited to her show at the Grotto and to put an act together with her. We had a great time goofin' around asheville like tourist. Delacey Santini of Gypsy Hands and many other projects. She is also a singer with a beautiful voice and can be hears around Knoxville.

Special Thanks to all the musicians-I will miss some and apologize-George and Andy Pond from Snake Oil Medicine show, Dan Chase formerly of Blue Collar Groove, Billy Z.-Skinny Beat Drums, Chuckster of all kinds of projects and the rest! Special Thanks to our safeties-Justin, Ambra, Suzy Thanks to Jesse for tweaking the Sound. Many others to say thanks to. The show went great and I did the best Double Staff routine of my life! I'm not sure why I am the only one in the troupe not smiling, I was quite happy. From left to Right-George, (in addition to being the musical director, George was the anouncer as well) Moi, Celeste, Lulu, Rae, Casey Bear, Melmac Pink, SamiTe', Cody. This was the second big show for SamiTe' and Cody and they rocked the beach. Way to go girls. So stay tuned because SamiTe' and I are working on a new fire breathing/whip Act. Hot.

Yeah, I'll be in Knoxville on the 15th. I have been doing shows either with Unifire, Seduction Sideshow or on my own every weekend for the last month. Here is my past and future schedule.
